I had promised a Green Line update, but really I only take the D line from Copley to Brookline Village, so I apologize for promising what I could not deliver.
There is a lot of construction going on at Copley, Longwood, and Brookline Village. They recently did maintenance on the tracks, so the ride is smoother. The bumps that used to rock the car between Fenway and Longwood are gone. They are rebuilding the old wooden waiting shelters at Longwood and Brookline Village. I think, except for the previously mentioned ugly glass Charlie Card kiosk, that the result will be good. I believe they are promising better access for persons with disabilities, and that's good news.
However, the project seems to `be progressing very slowly. For a couple of months now Longwood and Brookline Village have been piles of dirt contained behind chain link fences, and one must walk through a maze of fenced off corridors and Jersey barriers to get in or out of the station. Crossings are more dangerous because of decreased visibilty for both pedestrians and conductors. There is a lift for wheelchairs at least at Brookline Village, maybe at Longwood, too, that can operated by the conductor. But since the renovation I have seen no persons with disabilities board at Longwood or Brookline Village. I believe they may be seeking alternative transportation.
D line trains continue to run erratically. My fave is when they run two double trains one right behind the other. I see the first one pull out when I'm about a block away, out of running-for-the-train range. The next one pulls up seconds later, and if I run my fifty-plus-year-old butt off I might succeed in catching it, but if I'm hauling the notebook computer, I'm toast, because the second train, seeing the empty platform, barely stops before accelerating away. Then I'm usually stuck waiting 15 minutes for the next train and I miss my connection to the commuter rail. What fun!
