After Work

Mars shines alongside the crescent moon
An orange dot echoing sunset fires
Small angry eye
Across the darkening sky
Beside the silver slice
A lone duck quacks away

Loud out on the wetland
Nature surprising us
Our shoes scuff the pavement
Car doors slam and we are gone
The universe, heedless, carries on
